It has been a very long time, so I'm going to continue as if no time at all has gone by just like meeting an old and dear friend.</div><div> </div><div>We have been renovating my studio since January. I was very resistant at first to give up so much time with clay but now that we are nearing the end (or beginning), it really has been worthwhile. Wow! 40 years accumulation of stuff! After cleaning out a lot of odd stuff like 2 huge boxes full of dried kelp and other seaweed (great garden compost) which were very inspiring 8 years ago, I feel that I can breathe. Wall space for favorite posters. New wooden storage shelves painted fresh white-my studio is all white walls and now furniture too. It's much more airy and organized. I have great views of our gardens and lake which I can now see. I'm loving it. This is all thanks to my loving husband's impetus and fine woodworking skills. Thanks Art.</div><div> </div><div>I have been emailing my students every week or 2 with POTTERY TIPS so now I'm going to put them on my blog site. Let's see if I can keep it going this time.</div><div> </div><div>3 Raku Vessels, I made several years ago that now have lids and finials. See my website for more info. We out did last years show. We sold more ornaments that last year to benefit Cancer and we had more pottery sales and lots of customers. We also had a lot of fun.<br />A group of us from Canal Street Potters and members of the Nova Scotia Potter's Guild held a second sale but this time at Susan's home-our 1st open house sale. We had fun and made a good start to another annual event.Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13740954101936981751noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7892195301830186243.post-46086704683382657642009-11-27T20:17:00.000-08:002009-11-27T20:20:06.643-08:00We are in the middle of our 3rd annual Potters Present. It looks great and today was a terrific success. We'll have a lot to celebrate tomorrow evening after the show. We installed the main chandelier and are now working on the smaller chandelier. This project has had the most technical challenges of any I have worked on. One of the final challenges will be to take professional photos of it. The snapshots here only partially reveal the colours and incredible translucency in these LUMINARIES which are individually handmade and carved from translucent procelain with stained glass inserts. The supporting structures were custom machined and assembled from brass, copper and stainless steel. Each panel is individually suspended for ease of removal and assembly. With the world wide economic woes we were a little concerned, but BUY LOCAL prevaled. Everyone pitched in to transform our working/teaching studio at Atlantic Pottery Supplies into a gallery/gift shop. It was like magic-the magic of a good old fashioned down home kitchen party which lasted for 2 whole days! 2 instructors and 14 students participated and lots of other students, intermediates and beginners helped, looking forward to seeing some of their own work on sale next year. We had a fantastic fun time.</div></div></div></div></div>Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13740954101936981751noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7892195301830186243.post-9453612084181284222008-12-02T18:15:00.000-08:002008-12-02T18:41:03.080-08:00New Home for New Kiln<div><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FabLhclWvZo/STXwL4ee5DI/AAAAAAAAABs/mZfN4eNe3AA/s1600-h/IMG_5016.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275386625463870514" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FabLhclWvZo/STXwL4ee5DI/AAAAAAAAABs/mZfN4eNe3AA/s320/IMG_5016.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div>The Kiln Building is finished and test firing was successful so with a few minor alterations we were ready for the inaugural firing on 16 Nov. 2 firings later and we are really excited! The new kiln from Randy Brodnax in Texas, fires like a dream and is very efficient. Having it in a sheltered building is fabulous. It was -8C when we fired and neither we nor the tanks (outside) froze up. The fume hood/chimney worked extremely well. The pots! Ah, the pots look w<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FabLhclWvZo/STXwoib9iKI/AAAAAAAAAB8/rquVO8rXjng/s1600-h/IMG_5020.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275387117763922082" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FabLhclWvZo/STXwoib9iKI/AAAAAAAAAB8/rquVO8rXjng/s320/IMG_5020.JPG" border="0" /></a>onderful. The good news is that the new kiln shed is much more than a shed and as with all such fabulous projects, it is taking longer than anticipated!! Surprise! Surprise!!
